Merry Christmas 2025

Kinkaku-Snow-8-Cropped
My very best wishes to all Rusty Ring readers, regular and irregular, on this Christmas Day.

May it be filled with warmth and light.

Both that you find, and that you make.

The first is luck.

The second, skill.

  1. I was just looking at a picture that I took of this place when I was there a couple of years ago. I was there in July, no snow.

  2. Yeah, I understand it's more of a tourist site than a practical religious institution these days. Easy to see how that would happen, looking at this photograph.

This has been an issue for places of faith around the world. The founder of Antaiji purposely located it 'way back in the mountains, where it's so hard to get to it's completely cut off from the world for several months in winter, and has no power or indoor plumbing, precisely to avoid that fate.

Still, I'd love to see this place. It definitely has an interesting history.
